Do you make your own shutters, or import them?

We make them. Blindex Australia is a plantation shutter manufacturer with its own factory at Moolap, near Geelong in Victoria, and we install across Melbourne and the Geelong region. Your shutters are cut, built and checked here, by the same business that measured your windows and will come back to fit them.

What does a plantation shutter cost?

It depends on the size of the window, the blade size and the frame, so an honest number needs a measure. What we can tell you is that buying factory direct removes the retailer margin, which is usually the biggest single line in a shutter price. The measure and quote are free and there is no obligation.

Do you cover Melbourne?

Yes. We measure and install across Melbourne and the western suburbs, Geelong, the Bellarine Peninsula and the Surf Coast. If you are outside that, ask us anyway, because we travel further for larger jobs.

Is the measure and quote really free?

Yes, and there is no obligation. We come to you, measure every opening properly, talk through blade sizes and frames, and leave you with a written price. Nobody is paid a commission for pressuring you on the day.

Which blade size should I choose?

We make 63mm, 76mm, 89mm and 114mm blades. Larger blades give a clearer view out and a more open look, which suits living areas and big windows; smaller blades suit smaller windows and give more privacy when closed. We will show you the difference at the measure.

Are plantation shutters better than blinds?

Accepted Answer

They cost more up front and they last far longer. Shutters are a fitted part of the window rather than a covering hung in front of it, so they insulate better, they do not fray or crease, and they still look right in ten years. Blinds make sense where you want softness, a fabric look or a lower price, and we make those too.

Do plantation shutters help with heat and cold?

Yes, noticeably. A closed shutter adds a still layer of air against the glass, which is where most of the heat comes in during a Victorian summer and where it escapes in winter. Angled blades also let you keep the light without the glare.

Every shutter quote comes with a 3D preview of your actual window - your sizes, your panel layout, your blade size - so you can open and close it on screen before you commit to anything.

Yes. A deposit confirms the order and starts manufacture, with the balance due before installation. The exact split is shown on your quote before you accept anything.

Tell us and we come back. Because we measure, make and install with our own team, there is nobody to pass you to - adjustments after install are a normal part of the job, not an argument.
